Greater Purpose Charity was founded by Irene Apolot Akot, a passionate Ugandan mother whose own childhood struggles inspired her to make a difference.
At just six years old, Irene lost her father. Raised by her mother—a devoted teacher supporting four children on her own—she experienced firsthand the pain of poverty, the fear of losing opportunities, and the daily struggle of survival. Her mother worked tirelessly, often taking loans and selling their food reserves just to keep her children in school.
Through faith, determination, and the strength of her mother’s love, Irene and her siblings completed their education. Irene graduated as an Orthopaedic Officer from the Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences – Mulago.
But her journey left her with deep questions:
“What happens to children who have no parents at all? What happens to mothers with no job, no skills, and no one to turn to?”
Those questions became the foundation of Greater Purpose Charity, an organization built on compassion, hope, and empowerment.
We support orphans and vulnerable children with school fees, learning materials, uniforms, and mentorship to ensure they stay in school and build better futures.
We equip single mothers with vocational and business skills such as tailoring, craft-making, farming, and entrepreneurship—helping them become financially independent.
We provide nutritional assistance, healthcare support, and emotional counseling for struggling families to ensure holistic well-being.
We partner with local leaders and organizations to create sustainable community projects—improving livelihoods and restoring hope to vulnerable populations.
